Kurzbeschreibung The project is a collaborative effort to incorporate different hermeneutical and methodological approaches for an international, ecumenical, and contemporary interpretation of the Book of Jeremiah, a major writing of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. First, the project partners aim at generating a common hermeneutics that would allow reflecting the interpretation of this biblical book as scholars of the twenty-first century who live in a postmodern and multi-religious environment. Special emphasis will be placed on the integration of feminist, liberation-theological, and postcolonial approaches, which have emerged in the last three decades, as well as on an ecumenical perspective that respects different Christian traditions of faith. Secondly, the project partners seek to develop a concerted methodology of exegesis that honors both diachronic and synchronic methods. With regard to the current scholarly research on the Book of Jeremiah, the project seeks to bridge the apparent gap between US-American and German scholarship. Besides annual research visits of the two project partners at Yale and Marburg, two consultations with experts in feminist and postcolonial studies will be organized. The results of the consultations will be published in a monograph.
